A friend of mine asked me if I would like to do her sons 3rd Birthday party! I was so excited when she asked me, and even more so when I heard the theme "Sharks and Mermaids." So I went with a Under the Sea birthday party theme! The mermaid cake was done by Dippidee's. The sign was made by my dear friend Andrea, who did a beautiful Shark Party that I stole a lot of ideas from, with her permission, of course. Check out her party on her blog "It's the Life" here!
For the tablescape I used a canvas table cloth, and real fishing nets from Hawaii. I used fun bright orange vases, dried up star fish and sea shells, and a beautiful antique treasure chest for presents. Because it was a kids party, I livened it up by using different blue streamers to create an ocean look, with clear ballons for bubbles, and school of fish ballons to make them feel like they were under the sea!
We had a lot of wind that day, which made the sea look very realistic and also very difficult to photograph. We used colorful sea foam green, orange, and blue ballons to decorate the outside of the tent!
Candy skewers with gum balls, gummy sharks, and gummy fish were used for "special favors" for family. Wrapped in cellophane on wood skewers with colorful ribbons tied at the bottom, and placed in bright orange vases and a clear vase with beach sand on the bottom. I also tossed chocolate "treasure" all over the table.
For all the guest they recieved a gift bag with swedish fish and gummy sharks, held by the Birthday Boy himself!
Little mermaid coconut cake made by Dippidee's and mini vanilla cupcakes with sixlet bubbles on top and some mini fondant fish!
Large vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting rainbow sprinkles and rainbow fondant fish on top, with colorful buttercream frosting inside for a surprise!Shark fin root-beer cupcakes with vanilla frosting and fondant shark fins.
S'more beach cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting and grahm cracker sand on top with beach umbrellas.
The party guest had fun sitting around talking around the BBQ with some excellent food, and the kids had fun, with pool time, water fights, water slides, swings, and so much more!

What a fun party! I love all the bright colors and the "fish sticks" are genious. The little ocean cups are so fun too. You did a great job of decorating for the party -- loved the chest and the streamers. What a good friend you are. Joni
